Eric Carle Birthday Party

Several months ago, while looking online for party ideas for my son's first birthday, I came across this cake at Coco Cake Cupcakes and our party theme was born! We love books! Parker loves books! Why not have an Eric Carle birthday party?

So, of course, I had to have a caterpillar cake! After seeing the cake at Coco Cake Cupcakes it was the best possible choice for my son's first birthday cake...not to mention it made my life easier. Everyone could just grab a cupcake instead of my husband or I having to cut pieces for everyone.

I even used little colored sprinkles for the caterpillar "hair". It was a big hit at the party!

Because of the theme, we got him a lot of Eric Carle books and toys for his birthday, and we used them as decoration and entertainment at the party.

Before we started looking, I had no idea how much Eric Carle stuff there actually was out there! We found everything from puzzles to a bicycle helmet and pads! (He got both!) The puzzles, when framed, are great for party decorations, or can be put out on a table for the children to play with at the party.

There are just so many directions an Eric Carle party can go! I am certainly not the first person to have this idea either! There is even an online store via the Official Eric Carle site that sells items specifically for a party! The color pallet is broad and beautiful because of the amazing art work that can be found in Eric Carle books, and the ideas for goody bags, games and art projects are almost endless!

You can have an insect hunt using plastic insect toys in honor of great Carle books like The Very Quiet Cricket, The Very Grouchy Ladybug, The Very Busy Spider, The Very Clumsy Click Beetle, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

How about planting your own seeds in eco friendly containers or sending home a seed packet in each goody bag for the book The Tiny Seed?

You could put a rubber duck in each goody bag or have a duck match set up at the party to represent the book 10 Little Rubber Ducks

If you want to stick with the Caterpillar theme throughout the party, how about Finger Print Caterpillars or Coffee Filter Butterflies?

If you want to go BIG there is even furniture, rugs, decor, and more available! (This kind of stuff is great for classrooms too!!!)

I loved the party! I loved the idea! And, since it had to do with books, I thought that it deserved a spot on the Nook!

If you have a book related party theme or idea please feel free to share it with me! I will post it to my blog and link it with any books in relates to.

Happy Reading! (And party planning!)
