The Kissing Hand Cookies

After reading The Kissing Hand with your child(ren) or classroom, you might want to take the opportunity to extend the theme with some yummy Kissing Hand Cookies! What child doesn't love cooking in the kitchen with Mommy and Daddy? (Cooking time in the kitchen is a great opportunity to work on math, colors, and shapes  with your little one too!) The best part? When you're done you have a super yummy snack!

To start you will need:
  • A hand shaped cookie cutter. (These can be found at many home stores or teaching stores. They can also be found online.)
  • Cookie dough or your favorite cookie dough recipe.
  • A bag of your favorite kind of Hershey Kisses

Using a rolling pin, roll out your cookie dough. Then use your cookie cutter to cut out as many hands as you would like. Let your child(ren) help! This can be a lot of fun! Put the cookies in the oven to bake.

Once the cookies are out of the oven, while they are still warm, place a single "kiss" on the center of each palm. Now you have an fun, yummy, snack that will please anyone!

(If you would like a more permanent keepsake, for the first day of school for example, you can use the cookie cutter to cut hands out of bakers clay. After baked you can use a lip shaped stamp or sponge to place a "kiss' in the center of the hand. This can then be used as an ornament or hung on a wall!)

Have fun!
